Want to take a step back in time? Make sure you make a pit stop at the Nevada Southern Railway during your trip to Boulder City. The museum is a fun day trip for the whole family!

The Nevada Southern Railway’s history dates all the way back to the early 1930s, when the Boulder Branch Line was built by the Union Pacific Railroad to service and bring supplies over to the Hoover Dam construction site. The railway — which now exists as a museum — has both operational and non-operational display locomotives in their collection. You and your family can take a ride on an open air car or air conditioned/heated Pullman coach, or, you can even charter the diesel locomotive! You can charter the whole train to yourself for a special occasion like a birthday, anniversary, or a family reunion. The train goes from the station in Boulder City and ride west for four miles along the historic Boulder Branch Line. You’ll get to see gorgeous views of the Eldorado Valley, the River Mountains, the McCullough Range, and desert flora and fauna.

The Nevada Southern Railway also has special events running throughout the year. This month, kids will love StoryTime! At this event — which takes place every month; this month on January 19 — children will receive coloring page, a craft, and a story read to them, while they ride the train from the depot to Railroad Pass and back. StoryTime on the train runs throughout the day.

Don’t forget to book your stay at Best Western Hoover Dam when you visit Boulder City with your family. Our Nevada hotel offers spacious, modern-appointed rooms and suites, with fantastic in-room amenities like 40” TVs, mini-fridges, complimentary bottled water, and more. We have pet-friendly, options too!
